Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion's paws,
And make the earth devour her own sweet brood;
Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger's jaws,
And burn the long-liv'd phoenix, in her blood;
Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleet'st,
And do whate'er thou wilt, swift-footed Time,
To the wide world and all her fading sweets;
But I forbid thee one most heinous crime:
O! carve not with thy hours my love's fair brow,
Nor draw no lines there with thine antique pen;
Him in thy course untainted do allow
For beauty's pattern to succeeding men.
Yet, do thy worst old Time: despite thy wrong,
My love shall in my verse ever live young.
此首承上首，直接向“时间”讲话，宣称友人将在自己的诗中长存。

4、phoenix:长生鸟，希腊传说中的埃及神鸟，每660年自焚而死，然后由灰中再生，象征不朽。in her blood:alive.
5、glad and sorry:happy and sad.fleet'st:fly；有的版本作“fleets”，以与第7行 sweets 押韵，此处照Q。
6、whate'er:whatever.
7、her:i.e. the world's.sweets:fair things，参见12.11注。
9、carve...brow:在额上刻下皱纹。
10、Nor draw no lines:Nor darw lines；双重否定，系伊丽莎白时代英语的习惯用法。antique:（1)old；(2)fantastic.
11、Him:这是莎士比亚第一次点明前126首十四行诗写的是一位男友。course:progress，指“时间”的飞逝过程。untainted:untouched,unspoilt(taint 原为比武用语，指长矛比武中的一击）。此行正常语序为：Do allow him to be untainted in your course.
12、For:To be.beauty's pattern: a pattern of beauty,美的典范。men:男人。
13、wrong: wrong-doing,evil act.
